Nadia is at the end of her rope having struggled to change her life’s story. After discovering that she was not recovering from a debilitating illness, she looks for an opportunity to bring her dysfunctional family together again. She is forced to take decisive and hard steps in setting her children on the right path. As she fights the battle for her life, she can only hope that the legacy she has created would be for a better tomorrow.
I was thinking about my country when the idea of Nadia came to me. I thought about the challenges that we had in the country at that time and wondered if we would ever get over our religious and ethnic differences that cause us to hate and fight. I thought about the corruption that had eaten deep into our national DNA and I started to create a mental picture and eventually conceived this story of rebirth.
Nadia: Battles and hopes is an allegory of some sort. Nadia represents Nigeria, a woman at the same age that Nigeria was when the idea was conceived. Cancer that she suffered from represents corruption and her children and all the squabbles they had depicts the ethnic groups and some the issues that have arisen over the years. Nadia had to die for corruption to die but she was not truly gone, she lived in her children as they were all a part of her. It is a story of rebirth and of hope.
